With the 20.04.2 update of Ubuntu, everything works out of the box with the Mid 2012 version of the Mac Book. Next, I ran sudo apt update & sudo apt upgrade -y to make sure I had all the updates to my laptop. This will clear the black screen and error when booting. I found out that Mac’s EFI wants a signed OS. After installation, I noticed a weird error about MOK and EFI. I hold the options key and it shows the HD as the only boot option. once its done you have a pure linux iMac. just tell it to erase the drive if there is nothing on it. I managed to install Ubuntu, and everything went smoothly. boot the iMac to Linux by holding the option key and install Linux. I burned Ubuntu 20.04.2 on a DVD (From ) and booted up the mac by inserting the DVD in the drive and holding down the “Option” key while booting up and I select the first EFI Partition to boot from by pressing the Up arrow after selecting it. So, the installation was pretty straight forward. (I’m actually writing this blog from the laptop running Ubuntu.) This proved to be harder than I expected, but if you keep reading, I’ll tell you how I finally did it.

Because Apple, in all their wisdom, decided to include a 32-bit EFI with a CPU capable of handling 64-bit code. (note that this link points to the daily built CD images, which might or might not be broken at any given day)

    Not much, really. So, in the end, being tired of the general slowness of the device, I bit the bullet, exchanged the old 80GB hard disk with a newer and bigger model, and went on the journey to install Debian on it.

    You can’t turn off the Mac Mini using the power button, it goes to sleep, and it can’t be reprogrammed.TeamViewer takes up a ridiculous amount of CPU power on OS X.They also managed to actually break VNC for anything except the OS X client.Not fantastic from a security point of view. Apple stopped providing updates for it.Not Apple’s finest installment of OS X, truth be told.
